An illustrated talk by two members of the syndicate* that restored and are now the custodians of the Vampire Jet Car, which holds the outright British Land Speed record.

Built to compete at Santa Pod in the early 1980’s, although its subsequent history is perhaps better known, as it was the car that Richard Hammond “took off in” and had a spectacular crash at Elvington Airfield during filming for the BBC’s Top Gear in an attempt to extend its British Land Speed Record.

The talk will have video of Vampire performing as well as other Jet and “Funny Cars” as well. Vampire is a mongrel the rear suspension and brakes are Jaguar, the front suspension and brakes are from a Ford Transit Mk1, the steering box is Reliant and the afterburner came from a Sepecat Jaguar the engine from an ex RAF Red Arrow Folland Gnat.
